Aliens and astronauts loomed large over two of India's premier fashion shows just days before the country launches an unmanned mission to the moon.

Designer Prashant Verma was excited that his futuristic space-age collection was showcased on Sunday, ahead of the Wednesday launch of Chandrayaan-1, a spacecraft built by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

But he wasn't really worried that dresses made to resemble space suits and what looked like robotic arms might be difficult to carry off.

"Wearability is in the eye of the beholder," Verma said after his spring and summer collection for 2009 featured at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi.

The young designer turned out his models in dresses with planet prints decorated with Swarovski crystals.

Verma's models, many sporting electric wires and crystals on their hands, walked the ramp as a recorded speech of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy, champion of the U.S. space effort, played in the background.

Standing in his cube-shaped store jutting out between two European luxury houses on a pedestrian street in the Russian capital, Simachev neatly encapsulates the Russian consumer's tendency to spend exorbitantly in times of turmoil.

Sales of Simachev's collections, which include cotton t-shirts with prints of prime minister Vladimir Putin at 10,000 rubles ($400) each, remain brisk.

Yet Russia's markets this month have been struck by the biggest lows since a financial crisis in the summer of 1998.

Last week trading at Moscow's two main stock markets closed for two days to stem enormous losses.

Simachev's clothes, ranging from green paisley tailored dresses to 17,000-euro ($24,930) coyote fur coats, are sold around the world in larger stores but his Moscow boutique, housed in thick plastic walls with frayed rugs on the floors, is so far his only shop.

Simachev believes the current credit and confidence crisis could boost business.

"It will even create pluses, especially in this season," Simachev told Reuters in an interview in his boutique, which holds a bar and restaurant on the ground level and an airy space above where the clothes are sold.

Memories of the ruble's collapse during the 1998 crisis urge many Russians to spend money now rather than risk another devaluation of their currency in the future.

The interest rates on Russian bank accounts, which can rarely keep Russia's double-digit inflation at bay, often encourages the proclivity to spend.

"With the crisis going on, what it (luxury) will be like in half a year is anyone's guess. But Russia has always been famous for its generous soul," said a tattooed Simachev, sporting an 'Iron Maiden' t-shirt and a tied-up mohawk of thick black hair.

The Russian love affair with luxury, which some homegrown designers say harks back to the time of the Czar and is buoyed by 10 years of growth on the back of high commodities and energy prices, could help Simachev expand his empire.

A 17-year-old spent a night in jail last week after police arrested him for wearing low pants in Riviera Beach, southeast Florida.

 

The law banning so-called "saggy pants" was approved by city voters in March after supporters of the bill collected nearly 5,000 signatures to put the measure on the ballot.

 

The teen would have received a 150 dollars fine or community service, but he spent the night in jail due to a history of marijuana use, the Palm Beach Post newspaper said.

Paul Smith brings harems and hammams to London

Silks and cottons, linen scarves and embroidered necklines featured among the 36 outfits in the spring/summer 2009 collection, which Smith unveiled at London's Claridges hotel.

 

"It's loosely based on an exhibition I went to see at the Tate Britain museum on Orientalism (which) was very much about hammams and harems and all the lovely clothes that the ladies wear," Smith told Reuters before the show.

 

"The models' faces are very dewy like they've just come out of the hammams, colors are lots of whites, some black, lemon, pale pink and different sort of shapes like big harem trousers," he added.

The 23-year-old actress is Sarandon's daughter with Italian filmmaker Franco Amurri. Sarandon, 61, has two other children by her longtime partner, actor Tim Robbins.

It's september 2nd today and this month I have been waiting for long time. I can't wait till this month because it is very historical for me and myself. Not just the fashion thing. ;) Yahoo but well. Many bloggers racing to the top and the competition is thicker than melted chocolate but to be on top is sweeter than icing. I had posted emo fashion on my other blog and if you care you can go read about it. I just need to jump to bed I think I have missed sleep like two days.

While waiting for the plumber to come and fix my sink. I need to do some searching of Teen Vogue Magazine Cover. An hour ago I rushed to get some Cava for tomorrow’s party and had bought 2 bottles and few cans of beers I think they are enough to splash around for the whole day or even until dawn. Friends from the north sure coming or I guess they are there already at Tasha’s place.

I still haven’t posted the photos from last time party and so sorry I keep promising to post them, no worries betches one day your chic style will land on my page one day so soon else been doing a lot of reading this time and of course keep working on something like enjoying the Fashion Games to play online. The cats are still here and still no one is claming them.. Poor cats, I just wrote an entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2008. It was crap funny so my friend called it lame excuse when I fell asleep on the sofa watching project runway newest season which Christian Siriano was the winner.

I love his collections and I am sure he deserve the winning moment! Fierce! He’s young and wicked fierce winning the 100k USD from Tresemme,. I am sure you have seen Christian Siriano’s photo holding that big fat check! Fierce!

Fierce! His collection was fantastic! Mixed of darkies, he played much of the brown and black so love it. You should check some clips on Tubes.
