Fashion designer Tom Ford is getting the cast in place for his long-awaited move into movies.
Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode are set to star in "A Single Man," Ford's adaptation of a Christopher Isherwood novel.
Published in 1964, the novel centers on a gay man who, after the sudden death of his partner, is determined to persist in his usual routine, which is seen in the span of a single, ordinary day in southern California.
Firth is the gay man, an Englishman and professor who feels like an outsider in Los Angeles. Goode is the boyfriend who dies in a car accident and appears in flashbacks. Moore plays a friend of the professor.
Ford, who was recently ranked 12th in a list of the 49 men who most influenced the way other men thought, behaved and shopped, adapted the screenplay for the independently financed project with David Scearce.

Police said neighbors reported hearing shots in the area during the morning, but the bodies were not found until midafternoon.

Miss Teen Louisiana lost her crown 11 days early after being arrested on charges of leaving a restaurant without paying and carrying marijuana. Designer Prashant Verma was excited that his futuristic space-age collection was showcased on Sunday, ahead of the Wednesday launch of Chandrayaan-1, a spacecraft built by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

He won't get that chance. After only four games and just hours after the team's first victory of the season, he was fired as coach Thursday and replaced by Joel Quenneville.
The Blackhawks, who have missed the playoffs nine of the past 10 seasons, improved to 1-2-1 following a 4-1 home victory over Phoenix on Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning Savard, a Hall of Fame player and one of the franchise's most popular figures, got the word from general manager Dale Tallon that he was out.
"First and foremost, I'm proud of what we accomplished last year with the young kids in the lineup. I hope for them to do well," Savard told The Associated Press by phone. "It's a tough day, no question. I'm hurt. I worked hard to do the best I could to get the team on its way to the Stanley Cup."
Tallon said letting Savard go was the most difficult decision he'd ever made. Telling him was just as tough.
"There was some silence and a lot of emotion. He handled it with tremendous class and dignity as he always does," Tallon said at a news conference. "He accepted it and we're going to move on."
Tallon said the evaluation process had been ongoing since training camp and the decision was an organizational one.
